OATMAN
1447 GAIUS E.7 (Leonard6, Truman5, Benjamin4, George3, John2, Johannes1), son of
Leonard and Huldah (Barnard) Oatman, was born at Adams Center, Jefferson
County, New York, 14 October 1856, on a farm on Wright Street “where he had
always made his home until the time of his retirement three years before his
death, when he and his wife moved to their home” on Grange Avenue; he died in
Mercy Hospital in Watertown, New York, 21 January 1940, from a heart
ailment. He is buried in Union Cemetery,
Adams Center, New York.
He
married: 1) 30 November 1887, Alfaretta
"Reta" Haven, who was born July 1862 in New York, and died 28 May
1919 at the age of 55 years; 2) 1 July 1921, Florence Puffer, who was born 13
August 1864.
The
family resided at Adams Center, where Gaius was a farmer.
While
his name has been variously given as both Gains and Gaius, his
obituary and the cemetery records show it as Gaius.
