of Isaac H. and Charlotte (Chapman) Oatman, was born at Belcher, Washington
County, New York, 31 October 1867.
Lewis Ryan was
educated at the West Hebron High School and, after teaching for two years,
entered the Albany Medical College from which he was graduated with the class
of 1891. His internship was served in
Wards Island Hospital in New York City, where he had the advantage of a large
and varied experience. In 1892 he
settled at Gloversville, Fulton County, New York, where he was in practice
until the spring of 1900, during which time he was visiting surgeon at Nathan
Littaner Hospital and president of the staff of that institution during
1899. He was President of the Fulton
County Medical Society and was County Physician one year and City Physician for
three years. In 1900 he removed to
Greenwich, Washington County, New York, where he practiced, was a member of
numerous medical societies and held many civic offices.
He married, 27
September 1893, Agnes Emeline, daughter of Rev. Abraham Wilson and Laura Jane (Gilkerson) Morris, who was born
July 1870 in Manteno, Illinois.
