264 CHARLES6 (Elisha5, Samuel4, George3, John2, Johannes1), son of Elisha and
Sarah (Bates) Oatman, was born in Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut, 4
November 1799, and died in 1849 at the age of 50 years.
He married: 1) 4 January 1821 Sally Stoddard of Oxford,
Connecticut; 2) 20 December 1840,
Abagail Spencer of Suffield, Connecticut.
In the 1840 census
of Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut, Charles is head of a household consisting
of: one male 10-15, one male 40-50
(Charles), and one female 20-30 (Sally).
The young male 10-15 was possibly John H., who was said to have died
before 1840.
Children of Charles and 1) Sally
(Stoddard) Oatman:
1051 George, b. 2 May 1822; d. in infancy
1052 John H., b. possibly 1825-1830; d. probably
after the 1840 census. John died while
still a minor. After his mother's death,
the property which John had received from his father was divided among the
following:
Henry B. Oatman;
Horace Oatman; David Oatman; Sally Nichols; Polly Nash; Jane Smith; and the
heirs of Caroline Smith.
