3233 ALVIN L.⁸ (John⁷, Eli⁶, Darius⁵, Benjamin⁴, George³, John², Johannes¹), son of John and Jannette (Cooper) Oatman, was born at Rosanna, near Tillsonburg, Oxford County, Ontario, 18 January 1904, died 9 October 1987 at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, Middlesex County, Ontario, and was buried 12 October 1987 in the Tillsonburg Cemetery.

On 27 November 1927, he married Gladys Alfretta Bartlett, who was born in Dereham Township, Oxford County, Ontario, 3 March 1907, daughter of William and Mary (Webber) Bartlett, and died 30 July 1979, at Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital, Tillsonburg, Ontario; she was buried 30 July 1979 in the Tillsonburg Cemetery.

Alvin worked in tobacco in his earlier years, and whatever else he could find to support his family. They moved in 1945 from Rosanna to Tillsonburg and he became a mechanic; he worked for a number of years in Tillsonburg before going to Lyle Grant in Straffordville, where he stayed until he retired in 1977 due to his wife's illness.
