393     DARIUS OATMAN

 

 

393      DARIUS6     (George5Benjamin4, George3, John2, Johannes1), son of George and Elizabeth (Winslow) Oatman, was born 13 March 1815 (his gravestone states 1 April 1815), in St. Johnsburg, Niagara County, New York, and died 26 February 1888 in Adams Center, Jefferson County, New York.

 

He married Sylvia Ann Green(e), the daughter of Edward and Martha (Sheldon) Green(e) on 28 December 1839, per Register of Deaths of the town of Adams.  (According to the records of the 7th Day Baptist Church of Adams Center, Sylvia's mother was Lydia Green.)

 

Sylvia was born 8 February 1814 and died 16 April 1894 at the home of her son Bradford in Adams Center of consumption.  She united with the 7th Day Baptist Church of Adams Center on 4 May 1866.  Darius and Sylvia were farmers and are both buried in Union Cemetery, Adams Center, New York.

1423    Bradford D., b. 21 Feb 1844, Adams Center, Jefferson Co., NY; d. 8 Jun 1919, at his home near Adams Center, Jefferson Co., NY, “after an illness of several weeks, from a complications of diseases, aged 75 years;” m. 1) Rachael C.     , b. ca 1842;  2) Emma C. "Carrie" Campbell, b. Mar 1860, CN (no children); she was b. 13 Mar 1860, d. 28 Feb 1910.  Bradford was a veteran of the civil War, a member of Co. C, 186th N.Y. Infantry, and belonged to DeAlton Cooper Post, G.A.R. of Adams.  He was said to be survived by his widow, Mrs. Maude Oatman, of Adams Center, indicating that he was married a third time. Children, surname Oatman:

 

A         Florence, b. Oct 1885, NY; may have d. before 1919, as she is not listed in her father's will.

 

Bradford is listed as a farmer in the 1890 Business Directory of Adams Center.  His Will, dated 2 Jun 1919, names as his heirs Clyde Oatman, a nephew (son of Danford), and his widow, Maud Oatman.  Bradford is buried at Union Cemetery, Adams Center, NY; his stone is inscribed with "Co. C, 186, N.Y.V."  His wife, Emma C., was born 13 Mar 1860, d. 28 Feb 1910 and is buried with him.
