409     TRUMAN OATMAN, JR.

 

 

409      TRUMAN, JR.6     (Truman5, Benjamin4, George3, John2, Johannes1), son of Truman and Orra (Perry) Oatman, was born Oct 1814 at Adams Center, Jefferson County, New York, and died after 1900 in Philadelphia, Jefferson County, New York. He married in 1840 Fannie Allis, who was born 3 Oct 1819, Philadelphia, Jefferson Co., in New York, died 11 May 1900, daughter of William W. Allis and Betsey Barber.  Fannie married second John Holland, 18 August 1853, in Saratoga, Hadley County, New York.

 

The 1870 census of LeRoy, Jefferson County, New York, lists Truman, age 54, as a farmer with $8,000 in real estate and $2,500 personal property.  Fanny was 48 years of age.  In the same household is Betsey Strickland, age 27, and her son Seth "2nd", age 4; and Sophie Ferguson, age 25, with her daughter Fanny, age 1.  Marriage records have not been located at this point to determine who Betsy and Sophia married, or why they were both living at their parents' home with their children.

 

Truman was living in 1900 in Philadelphia, Jefferson County, New York, age 85, next to his son Albert.

1452    Albert W., b. Feb 1850, NY; d. 18 Jun 1925, Philadelphia, Jefferson Co., NY; m. 1) Sarah A.      (b. Dec 1852, NY, d. 29 May 1906, Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY).  Sarah’s estate was probated with no will evident; her heirs were her husband Albert and daughter Gertrude B. Colgan, both of Philadelphia, NY.  Albert was a farmer.  One child, surname Oatman:

 

A         Gertrude B., b. Sep 1881, NY; m.       Colgan, liv. Philadelphia, NY

 

Albert m. 2) Prudence S.       who d. 7 Jan 1945, Philadelphia, NY.  His Will was dated 31 Mar 1921, in which he names his wife Prudence S. Oatman.  In her Will, dated 7 Aug 1941, she named her three sons: Raymond, Lee and Nelson Springsteen.
