443     EDWARD OATMAN

 

 

443      EDWARD6     (Elias5Benjamin4, George3, John2, Johannes1), son of Elias and Eliza (Bunce) Oatman, was born in December 1829 in Jefferson County, New York, and died in 1912.  His gravestone is said to give his birth year as 1839, but census records indicate that 1829 is correct.  He was a lawyer.  He and his wife are both buried in State Road (Honeyville) Cemetery, Adams Center, New York. 

 

Edward was a farmer and a lawyer.  He married in Barnes Corners, New York, 24 December 1858 Phila A., daughter of Richard Carlton and Prudence (Smith) Parker.  Phila was born 30 September 1837 in Pernett, Canada and died 6 August 1912, age 74; her funeral was held 9 August 1912 at her home in West Rodman, New York.

 

His son Homer’s obituary lists three sisters: Mrs. Minnie Partridge of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. James Ross of Kingsley, Kansas, and Mrs. Hermon Baker of Lacona.

1477    Charles P., b. ca 1863; m. ca 1886, Marie/Mary       (b. Dec 1862).  Living North Hollywood, CA, 1936.  Children, surname Oatman:

1478    Minnie, b. ca 1866; m. 1)_____ Green; 2) Alfred Partridge.  Obituary of her brother Homer lists her as Mrs. Minnie Partridge of Los Angeles, Calif.

 

1479    William F., b. 19 Jul 1870, Rodman, NY; d. 3 Apr 1956, Adams Center, NY; m. 22 Dec 1897, Bertha E. Whitford, who was b. 7 Nov 1874, Rodman, NY, d. 6 Jun 1944, Adams Center, NY, daughter of Albert and Rose (Green) Whitford.  They farmed in Rodman, moving to Adams Center, NY, in 1919, when he built a home there; they were living in Adams Township in the 1920 census.  William was employed by the United milk Products Company and Dennison Seed House in Adams Center.  Both bur. Union Cem., Adams Center, NY.

 

1480    Otis J., b. 19 Jul 1873; d. 14 Feb 1951, Adams Center, NY; bur. Union Cem., Adams Center, NY; m. Edna C. Butler on 9 Jun 1908 (she b. 9 Jun 1888 and d. 17 Aug 1955);liv. Watertown, NY, 1936.  No children.

 

1481    Nettie, b. 29 Sep 1876, Rodman, NY; d. ca 18 Mar 1974; bur. Union Cem., Adams Center, NY; m. 1) Charles B. Morse, Menominee Co., MI; 2) James Ross.  She is listed as Mrs. James Ross in her brother Homer’s obituary, and as Mrs. Nettie Ross in her brother William’s obituary, living in Kingsley, KS. 

 

1482    Martha "Mattie", b. ca 1879 (7 months old in 1880 census, not listed in 1900).  She m. Herman Baker; her father’s obituary listed “Mrs. Matie Green” of Liverpool, Oneida Co., NY, as a survivor. Listed as survivors also were grandchildren, Doris and Mona Green of Liverpool.  She, however, is listed as Mrs. Martha Baker, of Sandy Creek, in her brother William’s obituary.
