Albert Oatman (471)

Albert (Eliakim, George, George, John, Johannes), son of Eliakim and Lucy (Stoddard) Oatman, was born 1804 in Vermont (per 1850 census, Tompkins County, New York), or Massachusetts (per 1860 census, Tompkins County, New York). He married Caroline Dumond, who was born ca 1810 in New York.

This is probably the right Albert Oatman, but there is still no recorded proof. He lived in or near Ithaca, New York, and the Tompkins County censuses list him as laborer (1850) and a painter (1860). In 1840, Mary Dumond, Caroline's mother, was living with them, age 70.

In 1860 he is 57 years old, living with sons Simon and John, who were listed as boatmen. Also living with them is Jane Oatman, age 47, whose relationship is unknown.
