477 ELI⁶ (Lyman⁵, George⁴, George³, John², Johannes¹), son of Lyman and Lucy (Hartland) Oatman, was born probably in LaHarpe, Illinois, and died about 1841. The date of his birth and death and the name of his wife are unknown.

1546 Charles Edward, b. Oct 1840 "in Illinois"; m. Sophia , she b. Feb 1844 "in Iowa" and d. before 1910, probably in Victor, CO. Charles lived in Victor, CO, in 1899-1902; his occupation was listed as "cigars". He was living with his daughter Clara and her husband Silas Fred Olney in the 1910 census, a widowed and retired farmer. Children, surname Oatman:

A Harry W., b. ca 1866, IA; m. ca 1890, Clara Belle ??, who was b. Jan 1867 in AR. Lester and Belle moved to St. Louis, MO, by 1900 where they remained. Harry was a switchman, laborer and fireman for the railroad. Children, surname Oatman:

I Lester V., b. Jan 1891, IA; m. ca 1909, Isabel ??. Like his father, Lester worked for the railroad. He and Bell lived in Hannibal, Marion Co., MO in 1910, moving to St. Louis by 1920. The 1930 census reveals a mystery. Belle was listed as a widow living in St. Louis with her son Harold. In that year a Lester Oatman turns up, the correct age and occupation, also living in St. Louis with a wife named Elsa, and two stepchildren. In that year his son Lawrence was living with his grandparents, Harry and Clara, and son Kenneth, age 13, is listed as an inmate in the City Sanitarium in St. Louis. Children, surname Oatman:

By 1920 he had moved to Poncha Springs in Chaffee Co., CO, where he remained in 1930 as a retail merchant of a grocery store. Children, surname Oatman:

C Frank L. Oatman, b. ca Dec 1869, IA; d. aft 1920; m. Lotta L. “Lottie” ??, b. in MO ca 1873. Frank worked as a butcher while living in Smith Co., KS in 1900, and in Jackson Co., MO, 1910. He was employed as an employment superintendent in meat packing in 1920. Children, surname Oatman:

I Floy L., b. May 1893, CO

D Clara Belle, b. ca 1872, IA; m. Silas Fred Olney ca 1891; he was b. ca 1871 in KS. Clara may have been married prior to this as in the 1910 census her son David is listed as Fred’s stepson, and as his son in 1920. Child, surname Olney:

I David H., b. ca 1898, CO; m. ca 1926 Faye A. ??, b. ca 1904 in OK

E Madeleine, b. Apr 1878, IA; lived in Denver, CO, at the home of her parents in the 1900 census of Denver, Arapahoe Co., CO, and again shown in 1899-1903, her occupation listed as a "music teacher". This is probably the Mary D. Oatman, a daughter born ca 1879 in Iowa who was living with her parents in 1880, Burlington, Des Moines Co., IA.
