Mary (Spencer) Oatman, was born at Arlington, Bennington County, Vermont, 1
April 1772. He was married 2 May 1799 to
Hannah Stoddard.
Little is known of
John. The 1800 census of Sandgate,
Bennington County, Vermont, lists a John Oatman as head of a family which
included one male under 10, one male 26-45, one female under 10, and one female
16-26, which could be this John Oatman.
"Military
History of New Hampshire 1623-1861" [1972] shows:
"Adjutant-General's
Report, Roll of Capt. Follett's Company [War of 1812] . . . John Oatman,
enlisted June 27, [18]13, to June 5, [18]17."
