75     ELISHA OATMAN

 

 

75        ELISHA5     (Samuel4, George3, John2, Johannes1), son of Samuel and Hannah (Wooster), Oatman, was born 16 March 1774, at Southford, Connecticut, was baptized at St. James Church, Derby, New Haven County, Connecticut, 5 June 1774, and died at Oxford, New Haven County, Connecticut, 10 March 1865, at age 91.

 

He married:  1) Sarah, daughter of Elisha and Hannah (Andrus) Bates who died 9 July 1834 at the age of 57 years;  2) on 7 January 1836, Damaris Smith, born 25 March 1772, died 26 June 1866, at the age of 84 years.

 

Elisha was a shoemaker.  This family settled and lived at Derby, Connecticut, during their lifetime and are buried in the replaced old Squatic Cemetery in the town of Oxford, on the Derby River Road.

262      Mary "Polly", b. 25 Jan 1794; m. Burr Nash “of New Haven,” 9 Mar 1811.  Burr was b. 16 Jan 1791, son of Thomas and Grace (Cable) Nash.  Burr was a Captain who settled in New Haven, CT.  He lived for 20 years in New York City and was a blacksmith.  Children, surname Nash:

269      Sally, b. ca 1802, CT; d. after 1880; m. Riggs Nichols, 9 Sep 1826.  He was b. between 1790-1800, and d. between 1840-1850.  By 1860 their daughters were grown and Sally was living with her father Elisha who was blind, and Elisha’s second wife Damaris.  She was living alone in 1870, and in 1880 was in the household of her daughter Harriet Tyler.  Children, surname Nichols:

                        B         Harriet O., b. ca 1838, CT; m. Arnie? Tyler, who was b. ca 1819 in CT.  Children, surname Tyler:
