97 TRUMAN OATMAN
97 TRUMAN5 (Benjamin4,
George3, John2, Johannes1), son of Benjamin
and Bethia (Smith) Oatman, was born in Jefferson or Washington County, New
York, in 1787 and died 20 March 1843, Adams Center, Jefferson County, New York,
at the age of 56. He married Orra Perry,
born 1790, died 22 November 1861 at the age of 71. Both are buried in State Road (Honeyville)
Cemetery, Adams Center, Jefferson County, New York.
Truman served in
the War of 1812. In 1810 he was living
in Adams, New York, with two children under 10.
Since his oldest known child was Leonard, born in 1811, there may be two
other children either unaccounted for or who died young. In 1820 there were two males under 10, one
male 10-15, and one male 26-44, one female under 10, one female 10-15, and one
female 26-44; one person was listed in agriculture and one in
manufacturing. By 1830 he was the head
of a family consisting of one male child under 5, one male 5-10, one male
15-20, one male 40-50, one male 70-80 (unknown), one female 30-40, one female
50-60, and one female 80-90 (unknown).
By 1850, Truman had died, and Orra and her youngest son Silas were
living in the household of her daughter Lucy Chamberlain.

originally reported as having two children, Mary G. and Edgar B. In the 1860 census, Eliza, 29, is a widow
working as a milliner, with two daughters, Nettie, age 11, and Nellie, age 8,
Edgar having died earlier. It is unknown
whether Nettie and Mary are the same.
