220     ABRAHAM BRONSON OATMAN

 

 

220      ABRAHAM BRONSON6     (William, Sr.5, Daniel4, George3, John2, Johannes1), son of William, Sr., and Elizabeth (Cantrell) Oatman, was born at 1 January 1820 in Bennington County, Vermont, and died at Bennington on 7 April 1870.

 

He married:  1) 19 January 1854 Electa W. Fenton, born 1823, died 9 November 1858 at the age of 25 years;  2) Esther M. Pratt, born 1826 in Ireland (per 1860 census, Bennington, Vermont), and died 8 June 1905 at the age of 79.  All are buried in Lower Cemetery, Bennington, Vermont. 

 

Abraham engaged in the mercantile business in Bennington.

 

Children of Abraham Bronson and 1) Electa W. (Fenton) Oatman:

 

912      George F., b. 6 May 1856, Pownal, Bennington Co., VT; d. 22 Jun 1885.  In the 1870 census, taken shortly after his father died, there is a George Oatman, age 13, living with the William and Margaret Alford family in Poultney, Rutland Co., VT.  There are also, besides Anna Alford, a baby at the time, four other Oatman children: Charles, age 11; Robert, age 16; John, age 15 and Willie, age 11.  It is unknown if this is the same George.

 

In 1880 George was living with his widowed stepmother Esther in Bennington, VT; he was 23 years of age.
